my wife and i went to dinner here to redeem a living social deal. the downside is that you are limited to what you can order using the deal. the crabs are steamed well and the taste is superb. one suggestion, if your crab is lightweight, notify the kitchen immediately, and they'll steam you another one.

One of our movers recommended this place when we moved to the area not long ago. We went there when my parents came for Thanksgiving. This is a butcher paper on the tables and trash cans next to the table kind of place. When you order crab, they bring your cooked order out on a tray, dump them on the table and give everyone a wooden hammer. That, a roll of paper towels and a pitcher of Yeungling, and you've got everything you need for a fantastic fresh crab meal. The cole slaw was a little sweet for my taste, but for a little hole in the wall in a small plaza with a liquor store...this is definitely worth a visit! OK...I have one thing to admit. I don't eat crab. I had a cheeseburger...which was not very exciting. But everyone else I was there with (and many table-fulls of locals who obviously come here often) were eating the crab and loved every minute of it. We all had to shower before bed, though, to get the crabby smell off of us. Good times!

Coming from la to here is such a drastic but pleasent change of pace. This place definitley has a great mom and pop restaurant vibe. The outside belies the awesomeness on the inside. We ordered a dozen orirignal blue claws, 30 shrimp, clams, crab pretezel. First de shrimp is AWESOME!! ITS fresh and has 4 options but my favorite is de shrimp scampi. They didnt skimp out on de garlic bits, in fact we used the rest of the scampi throughout the dinner. Its perefectly buttery lots abd lots of garlic bits. The clams were good and not sandy at all. The preztel was heavenley. Its a prezetel topped with real crab bits mixed with bell peppers and generous amount of perfectly melted cheese. The preztel was doughy and chewy and went great with the sauces. The crabs were old bay style and they were deliciously steamed. You cab tell tat this place is like family. In fact we ate rite by one of the worker/owner of de place and she gave us some great recommendation. Its decor is a bit lacking but de food, family culture, and service more than compensates for decor. It is one of the true gems of delaware!

This place has awesome crabs as well as other great seafood. The servers are very friendly & recognize their repeat customers. The only thing I would improve is a little face lift as this place has been around for decades. It has a bar attached to it inside as well

The crabs are very good but the rest of the stuff we ordered - mussels, crab dips, etc are super salty. Also, the chopped garlic they used are definitely not fresh. They use those that are in the plastic container. We went there for lunch on a Saturday and we are the only people there and it took forever. The waitress is very friendly so we didn't complain.

I ordered take-out crabs from here, i believe the medium #1s. They were just ok, specifically they were a little small and didn't seem as fresh as other crabs that I've had. I went July 4th weekend so maybe I was expecting a little better quality. Also ordered the fried oysters, small and burnt, and I love fried oysters so that says a lot. Me and my sister ordered drinks as the bar as we waited and they were nice and strong!

The food was awesome! The crab dip was accompanied by fired tortillas which makes awesome chips, the crab, the service priceless!!

Where do i start?!? The decor; no other words to describe it...the place is a dump, def falls into the dive category. It was clean but everything needs to be updated. Holes in the walls and very apparent the last time they painted (years and years ago) they didnt use edge tape. Vents were old and dirty, visible dust in the vents and the rug needed serious cleaning. The food, we had the crab soup, it was very good. Very thick and hearty, full of veggies and lots of real crab. The soup might be worth stopping for. Our kid got chicken fingers and fries, the fingers were very overcooked and dry. I ordered the shrimp scampi, it came with fries and cole slaw. The slaw was ok, decent flavor but slightly on the dry side for my preference. Fries were under seasoned, or not seasoned at all. I needed to add my own salt and pepper, they also had a shaker of old bay on each table, that was good. On to my shrimp, it was bad, very bad. The shrimp were long overcooked and were very rubbery. As for the scampi sauce, it was all garlic. I couldnt taste any butter, but the vast amount of garlic prohibited me from tasting anything else. Do not order this! My girl ordered the crab cakes, and these were very good! Full of real crab, no fake crab that we could see. She received 2 big cakes and they were light and delicious! Also came with fries and slaw. We were the only people in there and service was slow! Waitress was friendly, was just busy doing other stuff. I think there was just her and the cook in the whole place.

I was searching around for a great seafood place. Besides the usual red lobster. I have read many reviews. Did my research with menu selection, positive feedback, location. Everything hit me a+++ all across the board. At first glance at the outside location. It looked like a flimsy bar. Not anything attractive at all. But once ur inside. Very open area, lots of tvs, great service. The menu was very easy to read along with ordering. The food is mainly why u come here. It is unbelievably good. Everything from appetizers, entrees, to deserts. Well worth the price. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great meal.

Very good crabs legs and boneless chicken bites. The price was reasonable. We chose spicy Cajun seasoning on the crabs which was very good but I wish it had less of a lemon flavor. The atmosphere was friendly but I can see where this place could be considered not appealing by its appearance. I would definitely eat here again.

Dive bar? Yes. Questionable cleanliness? Yep. Best fresh crab in the area? Absolutely.

This place falls under the "don't judge a book by its cover." Located in an old strip mall it has a throw back to the seventies decor. Blue crabs are a must here. They are delicious. If you can get a the biggest ones they have left. You have to ask though. Try the Cajon or garlic. I still can't decide which ones I liked better!

A nice pub setting, paper on the tables. Nice place to eat crabs. The only reason I'm giving this place 3 stars is they were very low on crabs at dinner time and the price was expensive. Poor management for not ordering enough seafood for your business.

When a group of my co-workers mentioned this dive bar was now open on Fridays for lunch and they had a buck burger special I was sold! Upon entry the place was dark and empty aside from a few straggly looking fellas at the bar. Not to be deterred we chose a center table covered in brown butcher paper. The tables were also accessorized with a dollar store roll of paper towels and plastic waste basket, nifty! Perusing the drink menu the Crab Relaxer caught my eye so I asked the bartender/waitress what it was. She responded she wasn't sure because it wasn't ordered much and had to refer back to her book at the bar. Turned out it has coconut rum, pineapple, grenadine and another rum in it and it is the perfect delicious fruity, wish I was on the beach drink! Of course we ordered the dollar burgers and since it's got crab house in the name, the crab dip starter. The cheese burgers do not come with anything so we also ordered a side of fries. The dip came out first with thick chips that were more chewy then crisp. The dip had a nice amount of crab meat but seemed to be on the watery side. The fries made a better vessel for the dip over the chips. The burgers had a nice char-grilled taste and were infinitely better than a fast food chain. My co-workers have since went back without me and said glimpses of the dirty bathrooms and kitchen have turned them off to ordering food in the future but they would not be opposed to going for drinks. I had no adverse effects from the burger and didn't glimpse the kitchen or bathroom ugliness so I plan to go back and try the all you can eat crabs one night.

First crab house experience... Loved it. Had the shrimp special scampi fried and steamed all really good though the fried didn't do the shrimp justice. Had to wait 10 min for next crab delivery to get jumbos. So we had some soup.... This is not to be missed my wife had the Maryland crab I had bisque soo good!!! Then the waitress brought the crabs and showed us how to eat them. Doesn't get better to me.

You have to get the right waitress to get really good service if youre not one of the rugged locals sitting at the bar. Through the whole meal, my table nor the table next to us got any refills on water while the bartender chatted it up with the familiars. Oh well. One dollar cheeseburgers on fridays between twelve and four is nice, right?

The garlic crabs were amazing. The staff was very friendly. Drinks were reasonable. We will definitely be returning for more. Loved it!!

It's been many many many years since I ate here (at least 10!) Coming in for dinner with a couple of friends, we sat down to a mostly empty restaurant. I think the crabs might be hard to get or something like that, else this place should be packed. It's not a fancy sitdown. It's got brown paper covered tables with paper towel rolls, perfect for eating crabs! Jumbos weren't available so we settled for medium ones. Good flavor, but I was looking forward to the jumbos. Oh well..... maybe next time when I'm in town again...

So we bumped into this restaurant as we headed back to NY from Maryland. The crabs are even nicer than what we had in Ocean City! They are fresh and juicy and the prices are fair. We will be visiting again soon.

Best crabs in the area. They taste great, seasoned well and are never dry. Sometimes it can be hard to get them as the supply seems limited or comes in late in the day. But always worth it when you get them!

I think this is probably the best find I've made in Delaware. This place is everything you want in a crab house. That is, they have crab, and they have beer. If you want a fancy dinner, this is not the place for you. Expect paper on the tables and a communal dump bucket underneath for shells. The crabs are fresh daily (I know, because I've had to wait for the crabber to bring them to the restaurant), and the prices are fair. This place is in a total hole-in-the-wall location...to the point where you find yourself asking if you're in the right spot. You are. The inside was eclectically decorated sometime in the early 80s, and hasn't changed since. But none of that matters. You're here to eat crab, and it's a great place for that.

Service was aweful! Crabs were small, clams were small and didnt smell right. Waited 45 minutes for my dinner beforr i told them to cancel the order. It shouldnt take 45 minutes for a steak. The male bathroom was dirty and run down. The place is run down. Will not ever go there again.

Won't go back. The fried shrimp were not bad. Chicken wings were miniscule - hardly worth the trouble of eating. The garlic cajun sauce however, was good. There were 3 boys, obviously children of a worker or owner, who ran around screaming during our whole lunch. The Maryland crab soup was mostly broth and not good at all.

This place was great. I was in town for work and found this place on yelp. The staff was super nice and helped us decided what to order. We had the blue crab with Cajun and garlic. Amazing! It was super messy so be prepared to leave with crab in your hair. I would recommend eating here. Next time I am in Delaware I will try to go back.

Lestardo's is a mix of your grandfather's tap room, a dive bar, and exactly what you want and expect from a crab joint. Order a dozen crabs and a pitcher of Lager, hon. Spend the rest of the evening cracking, picking, conversing, sipping, licking spicy fingers and watching the Phils on the many TV's located throughout the small dining room. Maybe Chooch will hit one out for you, doll. Next to the old Penn Jersey, in a small, non-descript strip center, Lestardo's will never be confused with the Four Seasons, but when I think crabs, I think Lestardo's. I've been coming here for years. 'Cause it's just the way crabs should be served - butcher's paper as the table cloth and a cheap version of Bounty sitting close by for cleanup and napkin duty. The only thing that could make Lestardo's better would be if they were located at the beach... But hey, I am in New Castle, and this is as good as it gets here. Yeah, the bathrooms need a good cleaning and upgrade, and I think my grandfather may have sat in the same dining room chairs when he was alive, but for me, the crabs rule, and these crustaceans are well prepared and some of the best you'll find anywhere. Not fancy, not necessarily even clean. Just clean enough, and undeniably good. And despite some negatives oddly worthy of my 4 stars. If you love crabs, go. I think you'll agree, and you'll return again and again, just like me. Enjoy!

Great local crab spot in northern DE. Stopped by here after a family get together and was pleasantly surprised by the courteous waitstaff and homey feel. Crabs were perfectly seasoned and steamed but be sure to get there early...they get their crabs delivered fresh daily so once they're gone, they're gone!

We are from New York. We went down to Dover last weekend for the Firefly Music Festival. Originally we wanted to drive down to Maryland for some crabs, but not wanting to come back to NY too late, we found this restaurant in New Castle, DE. Only two reviews at 4.5 stars on yelp. We decided to give it a a try. The location is ok, the atmosphere is ok, but the crab is AMAZING! We ordered 1 dozen Colossal (larger than Jumbo) crabs! It is really big and fresh, with big chunk of meat from from the body and crab legs. The spice on the crab is tasty too. They also offered different kinda of sauce (butter) on the side. But the meat itself is sweet so I didn't try any. The waitress is very attentive. Overall, I am satisfied and happy that we chose this restaurant!

Fun place to hang, great owners! The crabs were very flavorful, a bit pricey but I was informed they weren't catching like other seasons. I have the shrimp platter with fried, buffalo, and steamed, they were tasty, and good size. I also ordered the steamed clams that were in a garlic, beer, and butter sauce which really were good, I dipped my crab in there! I love the Eagles painted walls!
(4)Annabel S.
Exactly what one likes to see in a crab place, butcher's paper on the tables and crabs by the dozen coming out on trays. Loved that you could order king crab legs or snow crab as an appetizer. The sautéed scallops were good. Loved the fish shaped serving platter! The Maryland crab chowder was super super salty so next time I 'll try the bisque for 30 cents more. Satisfying meal where you go for the food, not the decor!
